NCMC joins stakeholders workshop for Inclusive Green Economy Program

The National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC) actively participated in a dynamic one-day stakeholders’ workshop conducted at the Tex Palace Hotel in Morogoro, marking a significant contribution to the overarching Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) program. NCMC’s involvement underscored its unwavering commitment to facilitating Tanzania’s proactive participation in prospective international carbon trading mechanisms, ultimately aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions. Beyond this, the Centre assumed a pivotal role in the workshop, specializing in the reporting of carbon stocks and coordinating the intricate Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes for the Government of Tanzania.

The workshop, meticulously orchestrated by the University of Dar es Salaam School of Economics (UDSE) in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg through the Center of Environment for Development Tanzania (EfDT), stands as a pivotal element within the overarching Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) program. SIDA’s support further bolsters the IGE initiative, aiming to enhance the transformative capabilities of green economies across Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. In alignment with the principles of Agenda 2030, the program places significant emphasis on strengthening national capacity for promoting an Inclusive Green Economy (IGE), fostering collaboration among a diverse spectrum of stakeholders, including researchers, senior civil servants, policymakers, and associated entities.

This workshop serves as a strategic and collaborative platform, intricately designed for the dissemination of knowledge, exchange of ideas, and a profound exploration of stakeholders’ perspectives on socially acceptable and inclusive energy/biomass transitions. This collective effort serves as a vital mechanism for bridging knowledge gaps and cultivating a deeper understanding of sustainable practices. Additionally, the workshop functions as a dynamic hub for sharing experiences, facilitating learning, and providing extensive networking opportunities. Participants actively engage in discussions not only regarding the current landscape of sustainable energy transitions but also in shaping the trajectory for future endeavors. Key components of the deliberations include the thematic evolution of sustainable energy transitions and the identification of potential organizations contributing to the Inclusive Green Economy (IGE).

In light of the workshop’s enriching agenda, the active participation of NCMC showcases its dedication to advancing environmental stewardship, aligning seamlessly with the broader aspirations of fostering a more sustainable and inclusive green economy in Tanzania and beyond.
