India, holding the notable position of the third-largest global consumer and importer of oil, has embarked on a proactive journey towards reducing its dependence on conventional crude oil. A significant milestone in this endeavor is India’s commitment to boosting the blending of ethanol with gasoline, aiming for a remarkable 20% blend by the year 2025. One noteworthy development in this trajectory is the establishment of the Assam biorefinery—a groundbreaking project executed in collaboration with NRL (Numaligarh Refinery Limited) and Finnish partners Chempolis and Fortum. This state-of-the-art biorefinery has been brought to fruition at a considerable investment of 40 billion rupees, signifying a substantial commitment to advancing eco-friendly technologies in the energy sector.
